Project Manager


Your challenge


You will manage the Go-2 project, which is developing a, partly implantable, spinal cord stimulation system (Class III Medical Device), towards CE mark and IDE approval. Areas of attention are:

• Overall project planning

• Project budget (external costs)

• Progress reporting on deliverables, time, money

• Team management

• Project risk management


Your responsibilities


You will work together with the project managers of the Go-2 sub projects in managing the overall project towards a good end. Your responsibilities translate into the following daily activities:

• Build and maintain the project management plan, incl. overall project planning

• Execute and track the planning

• Manage delivery of the agreed deliverables (a.o. DHF)

• Channel project staffing requests

• Report on progress to the company’s management team on a regular basis

• Be part of the project core team

• Manage project risks and project action lists

• Organize and lead design reviews

• Organize and lead project phase reviews



Your profile


• You have a bachelor or master in a relevant engineering discipline, with proven substantial experience in project or program management.

• You have a systems-thinking attitude, can identify areas of potential improvement and develop plans to address these

• You can influence people without hierarchical authority; you are a co-operative person, not directive.

• Having relevant experience and knowledge in medical device product and process standards is a pre (ISO 13485 etc.)

• You are a high-energy, self-motivated, pro-active individual able to work in a diverse team within a startup company

Senior Embedded Software Engineer


Candidate Challenge


• You will work on the specification, design and realization of embedded and real-time software that will be part of our, partly implantable, spinal cord stimulation system (Class III Medical Device.) Potential topics are:

o Software implementation of data communication between implantable (IPG) and body worm systems;

o Implantable Pulse Generator firmware, starting with feasibility units and prototypes of system, expanding towards External pulse generator system. Interaction/cooperation with IPG design house/manufacturer.

o Real-time control firmware for body worm Motion Controller (closed loop control system and commutation hub). Communication via BLE and propriety protocols.

• You are experienced in programming software that operates in, and interfaces directly with a hardware environment with limited resources (memory, processor speed, power consumption, safety, encryption…).

• At least 7 years’ experience in C and C++ in professional embedded product environments, version control, test automation, continuous integration and unit testing.

• The software development shall be done according IEC/EN 62304. Experience with this standard or with software development in the medical domain is highly appreciated. Other regulated environments (like automotive) is also appreciated.

• You are familiar with wireless communication protocols like Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) and reliability challenges that come with these protocols.


Candidate Responsibilities


• You will work together with our architects in making and documenting design choices. You will work in a multidisciplinary engineering team (Minimal hands-on knowledge of lab equipment is a pre).

• You will, setup and maintain a development environment for embedded software and in compliance with IEC/EN 62304.

Senior / Principal Electronics Engineer


Candidate challenge


You will be part of the Go-2 project team in Eindhoven that designs, develops and implements a class III implantable medical device for electrical spinal cord stimulation with in- and on-body parts, featuring a closed loop control system.

The type of work will vary throughout the phases of the project.

• Design and development of body-worn electronics devices, from prototype to CE-marked product. The systems consist of micro-controllers, magnetic charging systems, Bluetooth RF communication, sensors, power and battery management etc.

• Co-operate with suppliers on design, development and manufacturing

• Support in testing of this equipment; set-up test tooling

• Work in multi-disciplinary team, focus on parts belonging to larger system and therefore being involved and part off integration testing, electrical characterization testing, design verification testing.

• Design the system to be tested under conditions defined in the IEC-60601 and prepare and guide the test activities in test houses.

• Multidisciplinary cooperate with e.g. mechanical engineers and regulatory for design of housing and environmental conditions

• Leading risk burn-down projects by setting up, prototyping and testing concept systems;

• Development and verification of electronic systems according IEC-60601 in cooperation with design houses;

• Characterization testing of electronics subsystems;

Candidate profile


You have a master’s degree or PhD in electronics, or equivalent engineering and relevant industry experience, preferably with active implantable medical devices.

• You are a generalist, with extensive experience in design processes and manufacturing of electronic devices;

• You are familiar with IEC-60601 compliance, requirements derived from it and testing accordingly.

• You have solid electronics design and system testing experience within a controlled process;

• Background in firmware development is appreciated (ARM processor)You have a system thinking attitude, can identify areas of potential improvement and develop plans to address these;

• You are a high energy, self-motivated, pro-active individual able to work in a diverse team within a startup company;

Candidate Challenge


One of the key elements of our neurostimulator is the development of a new electrode array for improved epidural stimulation of the spinal cord which will allow space- & timing specific stimulation of the afferent nerve roots in the spine. Your main objective will be to work within the RESTORE project team, a scientific EU consortium in which GTX is a partner. This RESTORE project aims to develop a patient specific 3D computer model to 1) simulate and optimize the electrode array design for development, 2.) to develop a pre-surgical planning tool. GTX is the project manager of this project, and is responsible to facilitate system integration and practical implementation of these new solutions. In addition, GTX’s task within the project is to make a personalized model of the spine to test electrode array, which strongly depends on acquiring solid anatomical and imaging (MRI and CT) input of the human lumbar spine. This input comes from literature, clinical testing and imaging analysis.

The main objectives and learning during the internship will be to:

1. Develop a database on spine anatomical variability based on literature, and MRI data.

2. Assist in development, implementation and analysis of a dedicated clinical MRI spine imaging protocol (collaboration with UMC Utrecht and the STIMO study.)

3. Work on segmentation of clinical imaging data to create 3D patient models

4. Investigate methods to evaluate changes in spine anatomy due to position change (lying, sitting, standing)


As this internship has a dynamic character, fully in line with the start-up spirit, the tasks within this internship can be broader, and you will have the opportunity to be involved also with other clinical scientific tasks that pop up during your internship period. The internship will be based at the office in Eindhoven. Minimal duration is 6 months.



Candidate Profile


 Background in (Technical) Medicine, Human-movement sciences, Bio (Mechanical)engineering and/or Neuroprosthetics.

 A strong interest in medical device development in an industrial environment

 Experience with clinical & scientific literature review and data collection

 A flexible team player

 Experience with MRI and CT image interpretation and processing are a plus

 Experience with programming in MATLAB, Python, SPSS or R (or similar) is a plus
